WHAT IS HIDDEN: ABORTION

Our world is riddled with issues that turn people against one another and we often fail to realize that these issues are repercussions of our own sin and imperfect condition. This "what is hidden" segment takes a look at issues through a biblical worldview and will serve as an analysis of the things we cannot see or tend to overlook. Our immediate tendency is always to blame our neighbor and demand justice that meets our own definition. However, the only way to overcome is to walk alongside the grace of God and the salvation He offers through Christ. By putting on biblical lenses we will be able to understand God's laws and practices so that we can identify and resolve the issues in our hearts.

A BIBLICAL DEFENSE FOR THE PROTECTION OF UNBORN LIFE

There is a spiritual war that rages on the battlefield of abortion. Abortion is rooted in humanity’s worship of sex, money, and power. Ironically, this issue goes all the way back to creation and the fall of humanity, the first sin. In Genesis 3:15, God says to the serpent: “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

Jesus Christ is that promised seed and throughout the Bible, we see this spiritual warfare between the serpent’s offsprings (those hardened by the influence of Satan: Cain, Pharaoh, Herod) and the offspring of Eve whose genealogy bears Christ. The enemy attempts to eradicate the lineage of Christ at multiple points. However Christ, through His incarnation into human flesh, vindicates and verifies the sanctity of human life at every stage from conception to natural death. God could have sent His Son into the world in any manner, shape, or form but He chose His entrance through natural birth. From conception, we know that life is sacred and set apart because God has said so through His Son who lived through every phase of that process. God ordains the sanctity of life in this way and the conception of it. That’s why we see so many parallels between the Bride of Christ (the Church) and the Groom (Christ). The theme in which Christ communicates to His followers is often that of betrothal, a wedding, and consummation. Psalm 127:3 tells us that children are a blessing from the Lord. The genealogy of Abraham alone attests to the God-given purpose of each human being as does the many promised and foretold children who prepared the way for the Lord, and will do so again.

THE BIBLE SAYS THAT…

  • God is active in the formation and creation of every child

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah1:5

  • God knows and loves every child before He forms them in their mother's womb

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." Psalm 139:13-16

  • God sees the death of a baby in the womb and murder as equal crimes that deserve equal punishments

"If people are fighting and hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman’s husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise." Exodus 21:22-25

WHY DOES THIS MATTER IN CULTURE TODAY? WHAT'S THE SECULAR APPLICATION?

Society has boiled down the debate on abortion to a woman's right to choose. However, the life of the child is just as equal in value as that of the mother. No matter what stage of life, a child in the womb was created in the image of God and is loved just as much by God as his or her mother is. Scripture tells us…

“Then God said, 'Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.' So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them." Genesis 1:26-27

“Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind." Genesis 9:6

Abortion matters secularly and biblically because it is…

  • The life or death of an image bearer of God

  • The protection of life no matter what age or stage of life a human is in

  • The violent murder of an innocent human being

THE CORRUPTION OF THE THREE MOTIVATORS

SEX

Abortion...

  • Immortalizes the idol of sex because of the removal of checks and balances

  • Encourages the murder of the natural consequence of sex: giving birth to a child

  • Enables repetitive inappropriate, lustful, selfish, and blind behavior

"Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another." Romans 1:24

Humanity has a selfish belief that a person has a right to fulfill their sexual desires any way they see fit. Sex was 1) intended to be enjoyed between husband and wife, and 2) to start a family. Abortion is the way society skips around these two intentions so that they can enjoy sexual relations freely. Our society is so over-sexualized that it has gone so far as to negate the fact that this workaround solution is murder.

MONEY

Innocent babies were murdered so that…

  • Planned Parenthood could become a billion-dollar business with increasing market share, net assets, government funding, and private contributions (despite massive declines in preformed reproductive health services). To learn more about the 3% myth, click here.

  • The sex trafficking, pornography, and baby organ harvesting businesses can continue to operate and thrive

  • 73% of women could eliminate a financial commitment

"Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." 1 Timothy 6:9-10

Humanity is morally deceived by its coveting problem which leads to an idolization of money and the things money can buy. Corrupt establishments will keep accumulating money no matter the cost to society. People are never satisfied with what they have, they hold tight to their money, and only want to spend that money on themselves. Money corrupts character. Remember, Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.

POWER

  • For women: Abortion gives them transitory power to reverse a circumstance or reshape a future

  • For leaders: Abortion gives them manufactured power by swindling loyalty from those who are slaves to their lustful desires

  • For governments: Abortion gives perpetual power through population control

"Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, 'Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.' He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, 37 'Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.'” Mark 9:35-37

Humanity is thirsty for power because people believe they are entitled to what they want and they long for the ability to control their circumstances. How someone uses their power is a testament to their character because many abuse it. Those who realize they have a certain power that can be leveraged for their benefit in a situation will continue to assert their power at the expense of the least of these, the voiceless, and those who are unable to fend for themselves.

THE EVILS THAT EXIST

The abortion industry is filled with evil motivations and operations, below are just a few. I highly encourage you to conduct your own research on these topics but always be aware of misinformation and disinformation as you do so.

RACIAL MOTIVATIONS

“We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members." - Margaret Sanger (founder of Planned Parenthood)

POPULATION CONTROL

In 1979, the Chinese government instituted a one-child limit per couple. The policy lasted 35 years. (Communist China)

“Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: 'Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.'" - Exodus 1:22 (Ancient Egypt)

EUGENICS

Eugenics seeks to create an ideal human species through the breeding out of undesirable characteristics, disabilities, diseases, tendencies, and even poverty. (Gene therapy)

THE GOOD NEWS

For those who have had an abortion, remember that the sin of abortion is no less forgivable than any other sin. Through true faith in Christ, all sins can be forgiven. Many women feel as though they must be pro-choice if they have had an abortion in the past, this couldn't be further from the truth. For women who have regretted their abortion and have received forgiveness from God, the power of your story can inspire others to choose life for their own baby.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus," Romans 8:1

"For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live." Romans 8:13

"For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." Colossians 1:13-14
