Avoiding temptation demands a special type of vigilance and prayer because of the dichotomy between our flesh and spirit. Our flesh demands pleasure by what appeals to our eyes, our flesh, and our glory through the abuse of God’s gifts to us (money, sex, power). This insatiable pleasure runs purely on a person’s greed and pride. This is where the spiritual battle takes place. Our physical needs are temporary and distract us from our spiritual needs, which are in desperate need of healing. The only way to fight off greed and pride comes from exercising our trust in God and our humbleness before Him. This means you must deny yourself of what your flesh wants and grab ahold of what your spirit needs. It takes time to understand how and why but the Holy Spirit does all the work for us, within us—we just need to diligently and prayerfully show up to training with our spirit ready for revival (but leave your flesh locked up at home).
Jesus Christ’s Diety and humanness were constantly also at war with one another. However, Jesus did something we never could—He lived a sinless life to fulfill the law given to us by God. However, even in our acceptance of Jesus’ pure sacrifice, our fallen human nature still wars against the work of God within us. Thank God for the living example He sent to us: Jesus. Because of Jesus, we can’t say God doesn’t understand our temptations, pain, struggles because His Son experienced everything you and I experience today—but ten-fold.
