Before his fall, Lucifer (Satan) was a cherubim (Isaiah 14:12), a high position of power amongst God’s heavenly angels. Although Lucifer was created blameless, he was unsatisfied with the power and gifts God had entrusted to him. His heart rotted with pride over his gifts and he thought himself to be superior to God. He no longer wanted to serve the Creator because his inward obsession consumed him so greatly that he could no longer seek God in his heart. Lucifer, in his free will, lead a rebellion against God and was casted out of heaven as a result (Ezekiel 28:16-17). When he was casted out he found that he was without all the wonderful gifts God has given him.

So now we have Satan who seeks to destroy God in another way: through the perversion of God’s creation and the sowing of discord among God’s people with whom He wants a willing relationship with. Satan is the god of this world and we are all captive to the chaos that is in the world. It is in our sinful nature to think and act the same way Lucifer did when he was casted out of heaven. Our only solve is humility and surrender to God who knows all things, made all things, and controls all things. Who are we to think we are entitled to certain possessions, pleasure, and glory? Like Satan, we are nothing without God—and if God casted out a highly positioned angel from heaven for his rebelliousness, He will most definitely do the same with us. Fortunately, through God’s grace and mercy, He sent Jesus as an atonement for our sins so that justification can be received by all who accept it through acknowledgement of the Triune God and through the sanctification of walking with Christ. We’re not expected to be perfect, but we are required to completely forsake ourselves everyday to follow God’s will.
