Mary knew that she had found favor with God (Luke 1:28) & that she was carrying the Savior of the universe in her womb (Matthew 1:21). Mary knew that Jesus was the Son of God & that He was of the kingly line of His ancestor David who would rule as King of the Eternal Kingdom (Luke 1:32-33). She knew that her pregnancy was brought forth through the Holy Spirit, the power of the Most High (Luke 1:35).
I’m sure Mary knew a great deal but no doubt she was confused as to how all of that which was prophesied about the Messiah would come to pass. This little boy wrapped in swaddling cloths who had spent 9 months in her womb was going to rule the nations (Psalm 2:8-9). This little boy who needed her help to be nourished, cleaned, & cared for was the Lord of all creation (Hebrews 1:2)? This little boy who was born in the lowliest of places was the perfect Lamb of God who would fulfill the entire Law, remain sinless, & be crucified as the sacrifice for the sins of the entire world so that those who accept Him may have eternal life (Exodus 12:11-13, Jeremiah 11:19, Isaiah 53:7-10, 1 Peter 1:18-20, John 1:29)?
I’m sure she had no idea what the details of His life would look like: His miracles, His ministry, His sacrifice, His coming Kingdom. Nevertheless, she treasured it and pondered it in her heart (Luke 2:19). As we should as well. For God is always faithful & full of grace when we could not earn it & we do not deserve it.
