Why do Christians care so much about this topic?

God designed marriage between a man and a woman to symbolize His union with those He calls His people. Throughout the Old Testament, Israel committed idolatry when they were dissatisfied with God. God compares Israel’s idolatry of false deities to a woman who is unfaithful to her husband (Jeremiah 3:20). In the same way, Christ is the promised husband of the Church which is made up of the body of believers (2 Corinthians 11:2). God’s design for marriage models these unbreakable covenants.

God shaped the relationship between man and woman in a complementary way so that they could experience a deeper intimacy with one another. This is evident in the male and female bodies as well as their souls—in marriage, they come together as one flesh for life (Genesis 2:18-24). Believe it or not, God is the designer of sex and created it to be shared only between married couples. A wonderful blessing of this consummation is childbearing which was also intricately designed by God. The husband is commanded to be responsible for the family, with the wife as his helper. Together they raise children who will go on to raise other God-honoring generations. See all the connections between the roles God has designated to us as husbands, wives, and children?

In Genesis, after each day God called all that He made “good” thereby giving His blessing over it. When He created marriage, He declared it “very good.” God does not and cannot bless any perversion or alt. version of His designs. If He did He would not be Righteous according to His own established order. That’s why God detests divorce, homosexuality, self-gender ideologies, and sexual promiscuity/fornication. He has His reasons for things that are incomprehensible to us. Remember when we didn’t understand the rules our parents had when we were children? He means everything for our good, not to harm us but to keep us safe from the clutches of the evil one.
